Breathwork Circles: How This Wellness Trend Is Taking Hold in Borivali
Community sessions built around guided breathing exercises are drawing steady crowds across Borivali neighbourhoods.
How we reported this

More than forty residents joined an early-morning breathwork circle at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park gate on 5 July, marking the third such gathering organised by local instructors in the past month.
Borivali’s dense train schedules and long workdays have pushed many residents to seek short, repeatable practices that fit between commutes. Breathwork, which focuses on controlled inhales and exhales, requires no equipment and can be done in small groups on pavements or park edges. The trend echoes patterns seen in dense cities such as Mumbai’s own suburbs and older districts in London where similar low-cost sessions have multiplied since 2023.
Venues and organisers driving participation
Two regular spots anchor the activity. The open lawn just inside the Sanjay Gandhi National Park entrance hosts free circles every Sunday at 7 a.m., coordinated by the Borivali Wellness Collective. On weekday evenings the same group uses the community hall on Chandavarkar Road for paid sessions that include basic posture guidance. Both locations stay within walking distance of Borivali railway station, removing the need for extra travel.
Attendance has grown through word of mouth along Link Road and through flyers posted at the Borivali station ticket counters. The collective keeps costs low by asking only a nominal contribution for hall lighting at the Chandavarkar Road site, typically collected in cash at the door.
Practical steps for newcomers
Anyone can begin with a five-minute sequence of box breathing: inhale for four counts, hold for four, exhale for four, hold for four. Instructors at the park sessions repeat this pattern three times before adding gentle shoulder rolls. Participants are reminded to check with a local physician before trying longer sessions if they have respiratory conditions.
Next month the Borivali Wellness Collective plans to add a Thursday slot at the same park gate and to share a printed one-page guide at both venues. Residents interested in joining can arrive ten minutes early to register their names on a clipboard kept by the lead instructor.
