Global events including U.S. strikes in the Middle East and Typhoon Bavi hitting China have prompted many families to skip long-distance travel and instead explore sites within the suburb itself. The shift comes as summer temperatures hover near 32 degrees Celsius and schools remain closed for the monsoon break.
Routes through Sanjay Gandhi National Park and Link Road
Two established programs anchor the current offerings. The Sanjay Gandhi National Park entrance in Borivali East runs daily 90-minute tram rides to the Kanheri Caves starting at 9 a.m. The Borivali Heritage Society operates separate two-hour walks along SV Road and the side lanes off Gorai Road every Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. Both groups limit groups to 25 people and require advance registration through their websites.
Park officials recorded 4,150 visitors on the first weekend of July, a 35 percent increase from the same period last year. Ticket prices stand at 150 rupees for adults on the tram and 500 rupees for the heritage walk, which includes a stop at the 19th-century Portuguese chapel near Gorai Creek. The society added an extra 10 a.m. slot on July 19 to handle overflow bookings.

Interested residents can reserve places on the park website or by calling the heritage society office on S.V. Road before 5 p.m. on weekdays. Walkers should bring water and wear sturdy shoes, as paths near the creek can become slippery after afternoon showers.
