Impacts on daily household expenses
Residents in Wagle Estate and Naupada will see their average monthly water bill rise from 320 rupees to 358 rupees for a standard 15,000-litre consumption. Commercial properties in the same zones face an 18 percent hike, which local shop owners say will be passed on through higher prices for goods and services. Households in western wards such as Vasant Vihar and Manpada remain on the existing tariff schedule because those areas already completed network upgrades last year.
The revised charges apply only to connections with functioning meters; unmetered properties will continue under a flat monthly rate of 280 rupees. Corporation records indicate that 14 percent of connections in the affected wards still lack meters, leaving those users temporarily shielded from the increase.
Budget allocation and next steps
Of the expected 102 crore rupees in new collections, 65 crore rupees will fund the pipeline replacement program and 37 crore rupees will cover increased electricity costs at pumping stations. The corporation's engineering department has scheduled tender publication for the first phase of work by September 30, with completion targeted for March 2027.
Property owners can apply for a one-time meter installation subsidy of 1,200 rupees until December 31, funded from the corporation's existing capital works budget. Applications must be submitted through the ward offices with proof of ownership and current water bill payment.
