Under the approved plan, the funds will cover replacement of 18 kilometres of aging distribution lines and installation of three new booster pumps. Residents in Diva and Mumbra stand to receive the upgrades first, while properties in central Thane wards such as Naupada and Jambli Naka receive no additional allocation under this resolution.
Effects on household costs and services
Local advocates note that households in the covered eastern wards currently pay an average monthly water bill of ₹180 under the existing slab system. The legislation states that once the new infrastructure is commissioned, the corporation will maintain the same tariff structure for at least two years. Central ward residents will continue under the current network without the added capacity.
The government says the policy will connect an estimated 42,000 additional households to reliable 24-hour supply by March 2028. Council documents list no corresponding increase in property tax rates tied to this project.
Implementation is expected to begin with tendering in September 2026, with the first phase of pipe laying scheduled for completion by the end of the 2027 financial year. The corporation has indicated it will publish quarterly progress reports on its website.
