Population growth in the ward reached 2.8 lakh people by the 2021 census, driving repeated requests for quicker permit processing. Changes to Application Process
Under the revised rules, applicants must upload digital copies of site plans and ownership papers through the ward office portal. This step replaces the earlier practice of mailing physical notices that sometimes took a week to reach applicants.
Residents planning kitchen extensions or new compound walls will pay the same scrutiny fees as before. The policy states that fees remain unchanged at Rs 2,500 for residential cases under 300 square metres. Commercial applicants above that threshold still follow the standard route.
Next Steps for Implementation
Training for 18 ward-level engineers began on 5 July and ends on 12 July. The government projects full rollout by 15 July. Monthly progress reports will appear on the BMC website starting in August, listing approval volumes and average processing days. Property owners can track individual files through the existing online portal used for property tax payments.
