BMC Approves Tenders, Demolition Begins on Malad Bridge and Road Projects
Tender approval and demolition work advance bridge and road initiatives across the area.
How we reported this

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation approved a ₹2,200 crore tender for two major infrastructure projects in Malad consisting of a 380-meter cable-stayed vehicular bridge from Lagoon Road to Infinity Mall and an elevated road over Ramchandra Nullah.
These steps come as the civic body addresses persistent traffic pressure in a densely developed part of Mumbai. Residents and commuters have long dealt with narrow roads and bottlenecks near key junctions, and the current approvals target some of those pressure points directly.
Bridge and Elevated Road Projects
The approved works include the cable-stayed bridge linking Lagoon Road to Infinity Mall and the elevated road spanning Ramchandra Nullah. Environmental clearances for both projects have been obtained from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority. Completion is expected by 2028.
Demolition Work Underway for New Road
BMC has begun demolition of approximately 245 of 357 targeted slum structures in Valnai near Mith Chowky. The action clears space for an 18.3-meter-wide Development Plan road along Shankar Lane. Five long-delayed road projects in Malad are also advancing, among them two new roads connecting SV Road and Anand Road intended to reduce congestion around Malad station.
Bridge Reconstruction Programme
Separately, BMC is demolishing and reconstructing seven structurally compromised bridges across Malad and Kandivli. The work forms part of a ₹26.43 crore infrastructure project addressing unsafe structures identified in prior audits. These efforts form part of a broader push to upgrade aging road assets in the area.
Progress on the projects will depend on contractor mobilisation and continued coordination with clearance authorities. Motorists can expect phased traffic arrangements as demolition and construction phases unfold in the coming months.
