Malad Schools Boost Enrollment, Add Building, Celebrate Student Success

Malad schools have recorded several notable student successes this year, including Malad Middle School's Science Bowl Team claiming its first regional win and qualifying for the national competition in Washington, DC on April 24-28, along with Malad High School marking a milestone when eight students graduated with associate's degrees from Idaho State University and one earned a Licensed Practical Nurse certification.

Enrollment Growth Sets the Stage

Malad's student population has grown over the last 2-4 years as new families moved to the area, bringing total district enrollment to just under 1,000 students. This steady rise in numbers created the conditions for expanded programs and opportunities that later produced the Science Bowl qualification and dual-credit achievements.

New Facility and Leadership Shifts

A new Malad Elementary School opened its doors to students in early 2025 after delays, giving the district updated space to accommodate the larger student body. For the 2025-2026 school year, Robert Hannah moved from Malad Middle School Principal to Malad High School Principal, while Josh Smith became the new Malad Middle School Principal. These adjustments aligned leadership with the needs of a growing district and supported the continuation of academic initiatives.

The combination of increased enrollment, the opening of the new elementary school, and the principal transitions supplied the foundation for the recent regional Science Bowl victory and the associate's degree and certification outcomes at the high school.
