Borivali Faces Next Steps on Building Safety Notices and Housing Project Timeline

The BMC has lifted the construction ban in Borivali East after air quality improved to an AQI of 95, listed as satisfactory, while separately issuing notices to residents of eight dangerous buildings across Borivali East and West to vacate within seven days.

Construction Ban Lifted and Air Quality Monitoring

With the ban removed in Borivali East and Byculla, the civic body will continue ongoing monitoring of air quality levels rather than reimposing restrictions immediately. This step follows recorded improvement that brought Borivali East AQI to the satisfactory category.

Notices Issued After Building Collapse

Following a building collapse, the BMC served notices requiring residents of eight dangerous buildings in Borivali East and West to leave within seven days. The R Central ward has already declared 54 buildings dilapidated and dangerous, with 33 already razed.

Demolition Schedule and Anti-Encroachment Action

Three more buildings in the ward are slated for demolition after Diwali. Separately, the BMC carried out a drive that removed 60 illegal structures and stalls in Mahavir Nagar, Borivali West, consisting of 25 structures and 35 stalls.

Affordable Housing Township Approval

The state government has approved an affordable housing integrated township for low-income families on 28 acres spanning Shimpoli and Gorai in Borivali West. Ground-breaking is expected in two to three months.

Residents of the eight buildings that received notices must now arrange alternative accommodation within the seven-day period. The civic body will proceed with the three post-Diwali demolitions and begin site work on the approved township once the two-to-three-month window opens. Continued AQI checks will determine whether any further construction restrictions are required in Borivali East.
