Borivali Transport Choices: Integration Steps and Road Rules Ahead

Borivali railway station handles approximately 287,000 passengers daily as the busiest stop on Mumbai's Western suburban line.

The volume puts pressure on existing connections to BEST buses, autorickshaws and taxis that serve both sides of the station. Borivali East links directly to the Western Express Highway while Borivali West feeds into New Link Road. A separate Thane Municipal Transport route runs from Thane Station to Borivali Station every 30 minutes and takes about one hour and five minutes.

Metro lines and station links

Mumbai Metro Line 2A from Dahisar to DN Nagar and Line 7 from Dahisar East to Andheri East are both routed through Borivali. Line 2A is listed for completion in December 2024 with a projected end-to-end travel time of 35 minutes. Local transport planners must now decide how BEST bus stops and autorickshaw stands will connect to the new Borivali West metro station once it opens.

Those choices affect daily transfers for riders already using the Western suburban trains that maintain a 98 percent punctuality rate. Any shift in passenger patterns will also influence how the existing 287,000 daily rail users move between platforms and road-based options.

Vehicle restrictions on narrow roads

Heavy vehicles and water tankers remain banned on narrow roads in Borivali East from 8 AM to 9 PM each day under a measure introduced to cut congestion. The order runs until April 28 and covers routes that feed into the station area. Enforcement decisions after that date will determine whether the same hours stay in place or whether adjustments are needed once metro construction traffic changes.

Transport officials face a narrow window to review traffic counts and bus schedules before the next round of road-use rules is set. The outcome will shape how autorickshaws and taxis serve passengers moving between the rail station and the new metro stops.
